The inaugural Guangzhou Summer Ice & Snow Sports Culture Festival and the Grand Final of the 2nd Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area Ski Elite Challenge recently took place at Guangzhou “Hot Snow Miracle,” drawing skiers and fans into a sub-zero arena of athletic excitement.

With Beijing 2022’s momentum still strong, the festival sparked a citywide wave of ice-and-snow participation in the “post-Winter Olympics” era—showcasing Guangzhou’s ambition to grow seasonal and year-round snow sports.

Guangzhou Builds a Summer Ice & Snow Hub

On June 18, while ground temperatures in Guangzhou hit 30 °C, the venue buzzed at –6 °C as athletes and spectators packed the indoor slopes. Guided by the Guangzhou Municipal Sports Bureau and Huadu District Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television and Sports Bureau, and hosted by Guangzhou Hot Snow Miracle, the festival runs June–September 2022 with a slate of competitions, clinics, and community events.

Officials noted the festival embodies the Beijing Winter Olympics spirit and advances Guangzhou’s “world sports city” vision. In the post-Olympic phase, Guangzhou is innovating a “rotational ice” strategy—expanding venue supply, boosting mass-participation programs, hosting more snow-sport events, and nurturing local organizations.
